Yesterday was such a proud day for me. I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in fashion merchandising, and cum laude at that! Since I was in middle school, I’ve always wanted to live the dream in NYC. Once high school arrived, I began requesting all of the course catalogs from multiple colleges (Hey! Don’t judge! I love getting mail!). By far, my favorite was FIT. I wanted to be one of those stylish girls in the catalogs that actually studied fashion, art, and business and that would eventually lead a glamourous life amongst the fashion industry.
Long story short, let’s just say my parents didn’t think I was ready to move to NY on my own. I was 17 after all. Eye roll. Regardless of that, I kept the dream of FIT in the back of my head. Once I made it to NY four years later, I knew what I had to do. I was luckily accepted and began my journey to obtain another degree, but this time, from a school that I actually loved.
Although my friends and family couldn’t be with me for the ceremony, it was an accomplishment that only I needed to recognize. Sometimes your dreams can come true. With a little hard work, lots of perseverance, and a determined mindset, you can make things happen. In your life, a lot of people will tell you that you can’t accomplish certain feats and most likely, you’ll have quite a few hurdles. Don’t let it get you down. Keep your head up and keep true to yourself. In the wise words of an Adam Sandler movie, “You can do it!”
What is your lifetime dream?
